Recently I stumbled upon Beautiful Losers on my Netflix (streaming…FYI) and was reminded how much I love Margaret Kilgallen! Using Folk Art, Letterpress, Bookbinding and Printmaking as her inspiration, this San Francisco Bay artist created beautiful lettering, and strong female figures using softly bold color palettes.
In 1899 & 1900 the Viennese Secession published an incredible magazine called Ver Sacrum. These artists were masters of icon and composition (and also pattern, obviously). I love them—hope you do too.
Some stunning Swedish posters from the 1920s and '30s.
